This story of a long, complex romantic relationship between a failed writer and his ghost-writer lover has plenty of love-and-family-gone-wrong agony. It's partly a movie-for-women type tale but it's easy to relate with the husband's weaknesses. For all the tear-jerking disappointments, Glenn Close plays the role with sarcastic fatigue, bringing comedic Roseanne-like edge to the Oscar bait.
